Hinxton Remembers

. . the 80th anniversary of the end of World War 2

on Thursday May the 8th a VE Day commemorative flag will be raised at 9 am on the village flagpole (situated in the churchyard near the war memorial) - the flag will be lowered at 10 pm that evening which is when the total surrender of Germany finally took effect in 1945.

on Friday August the 15th a VJ Day commemorative flag will be raised at 9 am and then lowered at dusk to signify the formal announcement by the Japanese emperor of ‘unconditional surrender’ and the end of WW2, at last.

on both occasions the church clock bell will be be tolled ten times (six years of war and four dead from the village) - at midday on May 8th and at dusk on August 15th.

————————————————————————————————————————————-

on Sunday November the 9th, there will be the traditional War Memorial service at 11 am, and at 7 pm a Remembrance Tribute, including performances of songs and poetry in honour of those from the village who perished in the war - a memorable and moving night of music and poetry.

NB. Everyone is welcome to attend any/all of the above events.
